There are no long queues for marriage registration in Montenegro, which allows the process to be completed very quickly. We can coordinate all matters with the local registry office even before your arrival and arrange a convenient time for your wedding.
To get married in Montenegro, the following documents are required:
If you have witnesses, copies of their international passports are required. If you do not have witnesses, we will provide them.
City of service: Herceg Novi.
Plan your wedding date in advance. To do this, we need you to send us scanned copies of your documents. We will check the documents and schedule the wedding for a convenient date before your arrival in Montenegro.
It is very important to make arrangements in advance with both the registry office and the court translator to be sure that all documents are in order and the ceremony can be organized on the desired date.
We do not recommend organizing a wedding in a hurry. Sometimes people arrive in Montenegro for just 2–3 days and want to get married urgently. Yes, there are usually no long queues at the registry office, and in general, it is possible to arrange a wedding quite quickly. However, there are cases when the registry office is closed for a few days or the court translator is not available on the chosen date. That’s why everything should be planned in advance — this habit is very helpful in life.

Attention: Depending on the country that issued a particular document, you may or may not require an apostille. An apostille is NOT REQUIRED if the document was issued in Russia, Algeria, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, France, Greece, Croatia, Iraq, Italy, Cyprus, Hungary, Macedonia, Mongolia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, or Ukraine. If the document was issued in any other country, please have an apostille placed on it.
*An apostille is not required for international passports.
Preparation of documents for organizing the wedding ceremony
Communication with the registry office, court translator, and payment of the fee
Submission of documents to the registry office
Providing witnesses for the ceremony, if needed
Assistance with obtaining an apostille on the marriage certificate, if required

Preparation stage: document translation. The timeline depends on the translator’s workload and the language from which the documents need to be translated. If time is limited, it is better to do this before arriving in Montenegro. We can translate your
documents in advance; for this, you need to send high-quality photos of them and the payment for the translation.
I strongly recommend translating the documents and submitting them to the registry office before your arrival in Montenegro. First, it saves time. Second, this is the only way to be sure that your documents are prepared correctly and that there are no issues with them.
The actual wedding ceremony: usually takes 1-2 days. At the end of the process, you will receive 2 Montenegrin marriage certificates (in Montenegrin) and 2 international certificates (in many languages).

To register a same-sex marriage in Montenegro, you will additionally need:
If an apostille is required on the marriage certificate, it will take an additional 1-3 business days. Whether this is needed depends on your goals, i.e., which institutions and in which countries the marriage certificate obtained in Montenegro will be used.
