Your Own Company in Montenegro: A Simple and Cheap Way to Immigrate
Having your own company in Montenegro gives you the opportunity to immigrate to this country easily and at a low cost. This method of immigration is suitable for anyone who wants to change their country of residence.
I believe that our fellow citizens open more companies in Montenegro than in any other European country. The reasons for Montenegro’s popularity are quite simple: anyone who wants to immigrate can do so, and to get a residence permit in Montenegro, it is enough to open a company. The 2018 Law on Foreigners does not require any specific turnover, investments, or tax amounts. That’s why for most of our fellow citizens, who are not rich like Buratino, it makes sense to open a company in Montenegro — it is one of the few European countries where you can not only register a business but also get a residence permit based on it.

Of course, all European countries have business immigration programs, but with different requirements. For example, in Germany, you can apply for a residence permit if you invest more than €300,000 into your business. The same is true in almost all European countries. But in Montenegro, there are no such requirements — you spend a few euros to open a company and get a residence permit!
Your Company in Montenegro – Key Parameters
Let’s take a look at the key features of starting a company in Montenegro. I think you’ll agree with me that it all looks very appealing:
- The share capital of your company in Montenegro can be just €1. For comparison, Germany requires €20,000.
- To get a residence permit, no investment is required after registering the company. Moreover, your company in Montenegro does not have to operate — it can be opened only for immigration purposes. Compare these terms with other countries!
- Montenegro offers the lowest company registration costs in the world.
- If you want to, your company is very easy to close, for example, after obtaining permanent residency. It is cheaper and easier to close a company in Montenegro than in any other country.
- After opening a company, all your family members receive free medical care. Compare that to other countries where you need expensive health insurance costing thousands of euros per year.
- You also receive the right to free school and preschool education.
- To renew your residence permit, you only need to pay about €35 in taxes per month. Compare this with other countries in Europe, where you’d pay 15–20 times more!
Who Opens Companies in Montenegro
The main groups of immigrants are:
- Real businesspeople, opening companies in Montenegro for actual business. And we’re not just talking about large businesses — small entrepreneurs who don’t have enough money to legalize themselves in other European countries are also included. Check our article “What Business to Open in Montenegro”.
- People with remote income: freelancers, traders, professional poker players, property owners abroad, remote employees. All these immigrants simply open a company in Montenegro, pay €35 in taxes per month, and live in a pleasant country while continuing to earn money as they did before immigration. See our article “How to Pay Lower Taxes in Montenegro”.
Company Registration Options in Montenegro
There are two ways to go about it:
- Open a company before coming to Montenegro, by sending me a power of attorney. This option is faster — you arrive when the company is already registered and can immediately apply for a residence permit.
- Come to Montenegro, I prepare the founding documents and we certify them together. Then I submit everything to the registration authority.
Which option you choose is up to you. About half of all immigrants open their companies before coming — and in my opinion, that’s smart. The other half do it after arriving.
